Kansas City Offers 1,000 More Free Trees to Residents This Fall
In Partnership with Bridging the Gap and the Arbor Day Foundation

For immediate release: August 29, 2024

Canopy Cover KC is launching another round of free trees this fall towards its goal to plant 10,000 trees by Summer 2026.

In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and Bridging the Gap, the program will provide 1,000 free trees to Kansas City residents to support the enhancement of the city’s tree canopy.

“Our Canopy Cover KC initiative is a vital step in our journey toward making Kansas City the greenest city in the United States,” said City Manager Brian Platt. “By planting 10,000 trees by Summer 2026, we are not only enhancing the beauty of our city but also taking crucial steps to improve air quality, reduce urban heat, and create a healthier environment for our residents. Together with our partners, we are committed to building a greener, more sustainable future for Kansas City.”

With over 5,500 trees already planted, these efforts are improving air quality, reducing urban heat, and beautifying local neighborhoods.
