SKCA April 2025 Meeting

April 10, 2025 By alwaysme3

Please join us at our monthly public meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance at 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the community room of the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr., and learn about events and projects that will directly impact south Kansas City and surrounding areas.

Deputy Chief James Kelley

Deputy Chief Konsta Myrick

Fire Department Deputy Chief James Kelley and Deputy Chief Konsta Myrick will explain coming improvements to KCFD’s ambulance and related emergency medical services that will be financed by KCMO’s quarter-cent public safety sales tax that was extended by city voters in the August 8 election before it expired next year.
They also will explain KCFD’s low cost membership program that covers out-of-pocket costs for medically necessary ambulance service for members and their immediate family members living in their households or in nursing homes in KCFD’s service area.  Persons may apply online at www.kcfdmembership.org.

Major Kari Thompson, South Patrol Division commander, will update attendees on the very latest crime trends in the south Kansas City area they should be aware of and also discuss the sharp rise in domestic violence fatalities the city has suffered this year.

Resources available to both business and home owners to spur economic growth and job creation in south Kansas City will be described by Dan Moye, Vice President of Land Development for the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City.

He will be joined by EDCKC’s Business Development Officer Jenna Scott and Marketing & Communications Coordinator Brian Escobar.

The plans for Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas to open an outlet store and warehouse at the former Homefield building at 5000 E. Bannister Rd. where customers can purchase gently-used items by the pound will be explained by Kristen Wood, Goodwill Director of Development and Advocacy.

Approximately 20,000 square feet of the building will be reserved and remodeled for use as an Excel Center where adults can pursue high school diplomas and other training certifications that can help them find jobs paying a living wage and offering benefits.  Its operations will be explained by Dr. Romeo Michael, Goodwill Excel Center Director.
