SKCA Mission Statement
The South Kansas City Alliance is a coalition of neighborhood organizations, civic, educational and faith institutions, non-profits, and business interests dedicated to a unified vision for South Kansas City. Through supporting sustainable economic development, building quality communities and creating a safe, healthy environment, we work to make South Kansas City a better place to live, work and play.
Founding of the SKCA
The idea for the South Kansas City Alliance was born at a breakfast meeting in October 2011. The motivating factor was a desire that the southland form a unified group to speak for them concerning issues, projects and a far-reaching vision. Over the course of five meetings, beginning in November 2011 and continuing through March 2012, the South Kansas City Alliance chose their name and developed a strategic plan to launch the organization and guide it through it’s first year of operation. There were approximately 50 people who participated in some or all of the meetings. The various community groups represented at these strategic planning meetings included:
Martin City Community Improvement District (CID)
Brookside Business Association
South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
The City of Kansas City, Missouri
