DEA Invites Creative Teens to Enter “Reel Prevention” Video Competition

October 5, 2022 By alwaysme3

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Drug Enforcement Administration in Kansas City is calling all Kansas City high schools students to submit public service announcement videos about staying drug free in its “Reel Prevention” competition.

DEA has teamed up with the DEA Educational Foundation to launch the competition targeting high school-aged students in Johnson or Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Platte, Jackson or Clay Counties in Missouri. Established in 2001, the DEA Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports the DEA through advocacy, outreach, and educational programs. The grand prize is $1,000, $500 for the second prize, and $250 for the third prize.

“Keeping young people from trying drugs is an important mission for the DEA,” said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Rogeana Patterson-King. “Through this competition, we hope our teens will find creative ways to encourage our youth in making healthy choices about what to put in their bodies. Who better to talk about the dangers of taking an illegal substance to kids than their peers, who knows how to speak to them?”

Entries should be a 30-second video about the dangers of drug misuse and the importance of living drug free. PSA videos must be submitted by Oct. 28, 2022. The winner will be announced Nov. 15, 2022, at a celebratory event with a special guest.

Reel Prevention is part of the DEA’s Operation Engage, a comprehensive approach to bring together law enforcement, education and youth engagement to best address drug prevention efforts in communities. For more information on Operation Engage, visit kansascity.dea.gov.
