Top Jackson County elected officials will highlight the program at February’s public meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance at 6 p.m. Monday, February 9, in the community room in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr.

New Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota and new Chairman of the Jackson County Legislature Manny Abarca will both speak at the meeting about important county issues and respond to audience questions.

LeVota’s term as the county’s chief executive officer will run through 2026, and he is expected to discuss improvements in the county’s property tax assessment and reassessment procedures, construction of the new county jail, county funding for high priority street and bridge improvements and county park facilities and ongoing efforts to keep the Kansas City Royals playing in Jackson County as well as other important county issues.

Abarca who was recently selected to replace DaRon McGee as Chairman of the County Legislature will also comment on these issues and discuss the county’s program to provide significant funding to local nonprofit organizations that serve county residents which recently provided funding to the Grandview Education Foundation for its Cover to Cover reading program that purchases books for students in the Grandview School District.

Goals include listening carefully to area residents and developing a comprehensive land use plan that meets their needs and desires which will encourage economic development and job creation, adequate green space, quality housing and traffic safety and beginning to implement such improvements in the near future.

Other area elected officials regularly attend SKCA public meetings to let those attending know about upcoming issues and events, and area nonprofit organizations are always welcome to announce their upcoming events.
