Top KCMO city officials and the Superintendents of the Center & Hickman Mills school districts will give factual explanations and answer audience questions about ballot measures that will be considered by voters in the April 7 election at this month’s public meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance at 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the community room in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr.

 

 

 

 

 

 

City Manager Mario Vasquez and Assistant City Manager Tammy Queen will explain the proposed 5-year extension of the city’s 1% earnings tax which is paid by city residents and by nonresidents who work within the city limits and is the largest single source of revenue for the city’s general fund.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Center School District Superintendent Troy Hogg will explain that district’s proposed no tax increase $29 million bond issue for improving schools & classrooms, athletic facilities & playgrounds and upgrading security and its proposed no tax increase change in its property tax levy which is estimated  to increase the district’s operating levy for expenses such as teacher salaries by 17 cents per $100 of assessed valuation and decrease its debt service levy by the same amount.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hickman Mills School District Superintendent Dennis Carpenter will explain that district’s no tax increase $20 million bond issue which will include funding for renovating and improving school facilities throughout the district and paying off prior obligations that is expected to actually decrease the district’s debt service levy by 30 cents per $100 of assessed valuation over the life of the bonds.  He also will explain its proposed no tax increase change in its property tax levy which is estimated to increase that district’s operating levy for expenses such as salaries by 30 cents per $100 of assessed valuation and decrease its debt service levy by the same amount.

Other area elected officials regularly attend SKCA public meetings to let persons attending know about current issues and upcoming events, and area nonprofit organizations are always welcome to announce their upcoming events.
