September 2025 SKCA Meeting

Please join us at 6 p.m. Monday, September 8, in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr., to hear representatives of KCMO and area business & labor groups warn of the danger of losing millions in federal funding for essential city services if the proposed plan to revise the boundaries of Missouri’s Congressional districts currently being considered by a special session of the Missouri General Assembly that began today is approved.

The proposed plan carves up KCMO and the current 5^th Congressional District now represented by former KCMO Mayor Emanuel Cleaver among three different Congressional Districts (which many have criticized as gerrymandering), with KCMO voters no longer being a dominant force in any of the districts that each include very large areas of the state, raising fears that our city’s most essential needs for federal financial support and federal services may no longer be a top priority for whoever is elected or reelected to represent those districts.

The new 4^th Congressional District would include all of KCMO west of U.S. 71 Highway north to the Missouri River, much of south KCMO, much of southeastern Jackson County including Grandview and the Lee’s Summit area and numerous predominantly rural counties stretching south to near the Joplin & Springfield areas.

The new 5^th District would include most of KCMO east of 71 Highway, much of south KCMO, much of northeastern Jackson County including Independence and numerous predominantly rural counties stretching east to include Jefferson City and counties even further to the east.

The new 6^th District would include all of KCMO north of the Missouri River and part of northeast KCMO south of the river and scores of predominantly rural counties stretching all across northern Missouri to both the Iowa and Illinois borders.

If approved, and not successfully challenged in court, the new Congressional district boundaries would take effect for the 2026 elections.
