SKCA August 2026 Meeting

August 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please attend our important public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, August 10, in the community room in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr., and learn about student academic progress and plans for the new school year from the superintendents of the Grandview & Hickman Mills School Districts, services provided to senior citizens by KC Shepherds Center and its need for volunteers, and recent trends in crime in south Kansas City by the commander of the South Patrol Police Division.

Speaking about our area’s public schools will be new Grandview Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Amaya, the district’s former Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Hickman Mills Superintendent Dr. Dennis Carpenter.  Center School District Superintendent Dr. Troy Hogg spoke at the July SKCA meeting.

Speaking about the wide variety of services KC Shepherds Center provides for senior citizens in the south KC area and the organization’s pressing need for volunteers of all ages to assist our older area residents will be Krista Harper, Community Outreach & Volunteer Manager, for KC Shepherds Center, who will be joined by KC Shepherds Center Executive Director Janet Baker.

Speaking about recent trends in violent & property crime in south KC and throughout the city will be Major Kari Thompson, Commander of the South Patrol Police Division, who also will explain specific actions residents can take to keep their businesses, families & neighborhoods safer.

Other area public officials often attend these public meetings to keep the audiences up to date about other new developments that can impact our community and neighborhoods – either positively or negatively – and members of the public are always welcome to attend.

Please remember Bannister Rd. is closed at U.S. 71 Highway due to the reconstruction & widening of the highway bridges over Bannister, so it is best for people who don’t live near Bannister east of U.S. 71 to take I-435 to Bannister and then go west on Bannister to Marion Park Dr., or to drive north on U.S. 71 and then turn east on Bannister to Marion Park Dr.
