SUMMARY:Community Assistance Council Honoring Alvin Brooks and John Sharp
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Community Assistance Council’s 50th Birthday Bash—fun\, friends\, and celebration in person! \n\n\n\n\nThe Birthday Bash: Honoring 50 Years of Impact is a semi‑formal black‑and‑gold celebration marking Community Assistance Council’s five decades of service in South Kansas City. This milestone evening brings together community members\, partners\, volunteers\, and supporters for a night that blends history\, humor\, storytelling\, and purpose. \nFor fifty years\, CAC has stood beside South Kansas City families through moments of crisis\, transition\, and transformation. Through lighthearted storytelling and shared memories\, the roast highlights the resilience\, leadership\, and community spirit that have defined CAC since 1976. \nGuests will enjoy curated music\, food and drinks\, and full access to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum\, creating an elevated yet welcoming atmosphere that reflects both celebration and community pride. The evening also includes opportunities to connect with community leaders\, partners\, and advocates who believe in a stronger\, more empowered Kansas City. \nThis event is designed to reposition CAC as a collaborative\, mission‑driven\, trauma‑responsive\, and community‑centered organization. It showcases CAC’s evolution from an emergency assistance provider to a stabilizing force that empowers families with resilience\, life skills\, and long‑term support. The Birthday Bash is not only a celebration of the past—it is a launch point for the next 50 years of impact. \nWhat to Expect \n\nCurated music and atmosphere from our event DJ\nInspiring remarks from community leaders and honorees\nFull access to the museum for mingling and exploration\nFood\, drinks\, and a celebratory environment\nOpportunities to support CAC’s mission through sponsorships and giving\nNetworking with professionals\, partners\, and community advocates\n\nWhy This Event MattersCAC is entering a new era—one focused on deeper collaboration\, trauma‑responsive care\, and empowering families with the tools\, skills\, and confidence to thrive. SUMMARY:SKCA September 2026 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please attend our important public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday\, September 14\, in the community room in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus\, 9701 Marion Park Dr.\, and hear a factual presentation about the proposed 10-year renewal of the quarter-cent Jackson County COMBAT anti-crime/anti-drug sales tax that will be on the November 3 ballot. \nJoseph Loudon\, communications administrator for the COMBAT Commission\, will present the facts about COMBAT’s countywide anti-crime and anti-drug efforts\, particularly its efforts to curtail trafficking of deadly fentanyl\, and answer audience questions. \nAlthough the small quarter-cent sales tax only generates 25 cents for every $100.00 of purchases\, it brings in about $30 million countywide annually to fund COMBAT’s anti-crime and anti-drug efforts according to COMBAT Director Murray Woodard II. \n  \nAlso speaking about the upcoming improvements to KCMO’s sanitary sewer system and the timeline for implementing them due to voter approval August 4 of a KCMO no tax increase revenue bond issue to rehabilitate and expand the system will be Noah Pfeffer\, project engineer for the KCMO Water Department’s Smart Sewer Division\, who also will respond to audience questions. \nOther public officials usually attend these public meetings to keep the audiences up to date about other new developments that can impact our community\, and members of the public always are welcome to attend. \nPlease remember Bannister Rd. is closed at U.S. 71 Highway due to the reconstruction & widening of the highway bridges over Bannister\, so it is best for people who don’t live near Bannister east of U.S. 71 to take I-435 to Bannister and then go west on Bannister to Marion Park Dr.\, or to drive north on U.S. 71 and then turn east on Bannister to Marion Park Dr.
