SKCA August 2023 Meeting

August 8, 2023 By alwaysme3

Please join us for our great program at 6 p.m. Monday, August 14, in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Drive, and hear the latest details about the September 1 opening of the world-class Sobela Ocean Aquarium at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium.

Admission to the $75 million, 650,000-gallon aquarium will be included with admission to the zoo but will require timed reservations to accommodate as many guests as possible since the aquarium is expected to draw visitors from throughout the Midwest.

Sean Putney, executive director/CEO of the zoo & aquarium, will explain the many features of this great new family attraction as well as the zoo’s new and renovated animal habitats that have greatly improved customer satisfaction and discuss plans for future improvements.

Also speaking Monday will be two of the seven new members of the KCMO City Council, 5th District-at-Large City Councilman Darrell Curls & 4th District-at-Large City Councilman Crispin Rea, who are both members of the Council’s powerful Finance, Governance & Public Safety Committee. Curls & Rea, who took office on August 1, will explain their top priorities as new members of the Council and have agreed to respond to comments and questions from the audience, so this will be an excellent opportunity for area residents to tell them what they think are south Kansas City’s greatest and most urgent needs.

Besides this great program, the SKCA is hosting its annual Community Awards Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 7, in the Whitfield Center at Avila University, 11901 Wornall Road, to honor the individuals and organizations that devote their time and money to improve south Kansas City.

Tickets to the event which features a full hot breakfast buffet are only $15, and can be ordered by mailing a check to SKCA at the address shown on the linked ticket order form or paying online at the SKCA website – www.southkcalliance.org.
